Reason 3: Our neighbours will call the police if they see a suspicious person lurking in the neighbourhood.
While it is great to live in a neigbhourhood where everyone knows everyone and will help watch over each other’s house, there is always that possiblilty of a burglar striking when the neighbours are sleeping or away. Even if they are not sleeping, just how does a suspicious person looked like?
Afterall burglars do not wear black masks, black gloves nor carry a black sack. Some burglars looked very smart, very decent and they can pass themselves off as a relative and in some cases as a technician, servicing the phone or whatever utilities is convenient.
Recently we saw the arrest of terrorist Mas Selamat in Johor, Malaysia. What was interesting is that he managed to stay in a village undetected for a full year, despite the publicity and posters on both side of the causeway. So can we really tell a burglar from a stranger?
I guess we can if we hang around long enough to see what the person is up to. But a cursory look at a stranger walking pass your door step may not be enough to alert you to a potential burglary.
