Securevision installs MAG car park boom barriers for condominiums and commercial car parks, and MAG recess (concealed) swing gate motors for Singapore landed homes with gate leaves under approximately 2 metres wide. For heavier or wider swing gates requiring a surface-mounted arm, we specify FAAC. For new sliding gate motors, we specify FAAC. MAG Car Park Barriers
MAG's boom barrier range covers the standard Singapore condominium and commercial car park requirements: straight arm barriers from 1.5m to 6m arm length, folding arm barriers, and fence arm barriers that prevent pedestrians from passing under. The fence arm variant is specifically relevant for Singapore condominiums where anti-tailgate security is a requirement: it eliminates the gap under the boom that a person could walk through.
MAG barriers are mechanically straightforward, well-understood by Singapore engineers, and supported by a spare parts supply chain based in JB. Cycle times range from 1.7 to 6 seconds depending on the model and arm length. For most Singapore condominium car park applications: moderate traffic, standard arm lengths: MAG delivers reliable performance at a significantly lower cost than FAAC barriers, which are considerably more expensive and better suited to the highest-usage or premium-specification installations.
MAG Recess Swing Gate Motors
MAG's recess swing gate motor (also called a concealed or underground motor) sits in the gate pillar or in a housing at the base of the gate hinge, hidden from view when the gate is closed. It is the aesthetically preferred option for Singapore landed homes: no visible arm hardware, cleaner appearance, and the motor is protected from direct weather exposure.
Recess motors are specified for swing gate leaves up to approximately 2 metres wide and 300kg in weight. Beyond these dimensions, the torque limitation of a recess motor means a surface-mounted arm is the correct specification. For new installations within these parameters, Securevision typically specifies MAG as the primary choice: good performance, available spare parts, and a competitive cost. The typical service life is 3 to 5 years under regular use before gear wear becomes an issue.
What to Expect Over Time: Gear Wear on Recess Motors
The most common fault on swing gate recess motors: MAG, Dormer, and equivalent brands: is gear wear. The motor drives a worm gear that turns the gate pivot shaft. Over time and duty cycles, the teeth of this gear gradually wear. When the wear is sufficient, the motor runs but the gate does not move: the gear spins without engaging the shaft.
This is not a fault as such; it is normal wear for this motor type. There is no practical repair: the gearbox must be replaced. A recess motor in regular use at a Singapore landed home can be expected to last between 3 and 5 years before gear replacement is needed. Securevision advises clients of this at installation so there is no surprise when the time comes. At replacement, the motor body and wiring harness can often be reused: only the gearbox assembly needs replacing if the motor itself remains healthy.
